The Energetics of Essential Oils
Most people think of essential oils as a transactional modality. "I have a headache, I will use Peppermint." or "I've been fighting a cold, I need OnGuard." There's nothing inherently wrong with this approach, but in reality, it's not much different than using a Tylenol for a headache or for your cold. It's far less toxic to your body (yea!) but it's limiting the scope of what essential oils can do for you.
Everything I teach about - essential oils, nutrition, frequency healing - has to do with energy.
At the most basic level, everything in the body communicates through energy. Cells signal one another electrically and chemically. The nervous system runs on electrical impulses. Your body breaks down the food you eat and turns it into energy for every cell in your body.
Essential oils fit into this picture because they are highly concentrated plant compounds that carry both biochemical and energetic information.
But what does this mean for you in the practical sense?
When a plant is distilled into an essential oil, you’re not just extracting scent. You’re concentrating the plant’s volatile aromatic compounds - the part of the plant responsible for protection, communication, and adaptation. That’s why one single drop goes a long way.
From an energetic perspective, those aromatic molecules vibrate at specific frequencies. When they enter the body, through inhalation, topical application, or by internal use, they interact with your system in two key ways:
1. Neurological signalling (the fast lane) When you inhale an essential oil, the aroma travels directly to the limbic system of the brain. This area governs mood, memory, stress response, and autonomic balance. It's lightening quick - within seconds, it's signalling a shift in your body. This is why oils can shift emotional or stress states so quickly. Your nervous system recognizes the signal and responds immediately.
2. Resonance and coherence (the subtle lane) This is where frequency healing language comes in. The body seeks harmony. When systems are stressed, inflamed, or dys-regulated, their signalling becomes inefficient. Essential oils introduce a stable, organized frequency into the system. The body doesn’t get forced into change, it draws to what is coherent.
Think less “the oil fixes you” and more “the oil reminds the body what harmony feels like.”
That’s the resonance principle: when two frequencies interact, the more organized one can help bring order to the less organized one. The body decides what to do with that information.
Important note—because this matters: Frequency healing does not replace biochemistry. It works alongside it.
Essential oils still have measurable physiological effects that you're already familiar with:
They influence neurotransmitters
They modulate inflammation
They support immune response
They affect hormone communication
The energetic component simply explains why the effects can be rapid, subtle, and systemic rather than isolated to one symptom.
So when people say essential oils “work on an energetic level,” what they’re really saying is this:
They communicate quickly
They influence regulation rather than override it
They support the body’s own intelligence instead of micromanaging it
It's not magic...even though it feels that way. It's just a recognition that the body is more than chemistry alone—and that sometimes the most effective inputs are the ones that speak the body’s native language.
