Immune Support for the Whole Family: Essential Oils for Back-to-School and Fall Wellness

With autumn just around the corner, it means cooler mornings, colourful leaves, and potentially the start of the unofficial fifth season, cold and flu. With kids back in school, schedules picking up, and more time spent indoors, it’s a smart time to give your immune system extra support. Essential oils can be a simple, natural way to help protect your health — and your family’s — during the busy months ahead.

Why Essential Oils Can Help

High-quality essential oils, like those from doTERRA, contain natural compounds that support immune function, cleanse the air, and promote a healthy environment. Essential oils are best used preventatively - meaning on the daily - to achieve the best results. Many women I know will order them and only pull them out when a crisis hits. I wanted to share some ways that you can use them regularly and help them fit seamlessly into your family’s routine.

4 Essential Oils for Fall Immune Support

  • On Guard® – doTERRA’s Protective Blend combines Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary. Diffuse it to purify the air, or apply diluted to the bottoms of feet for everyday support.

  • Tea Tree – Known for its cleansing properties. Use it in a DIY hand spray or to freshen high-touch surfaces.

  • Wild Orange – Supports detoxification and has uplifting, energizing benefits. Add a drop to water (internal use only if labelled safe as it is with dóTERRA) or diffuse for a clean, bright scent.

  • Arborvitae – Powerful for immune defence, but very effective. The Arborvitae tree, when felled, takes decades to decompose to the protective oils that flow from inside. Diffuse this one or dilute and apply topically.

Simple Daily Routines

  1. Morning Diffuser Blend: 3 drops On Guard + 2 drops Wild Orange in the kitchen or living room to start the day.

  2. DIY Hand Spray: In a 30 ml spray bottle, combine 10 drops On Guard, 5 drops Tea Tree, a splash of witch hazel, and fill with water.

  3. First Sign of Sniffles: Apply diluted On Guard or Arborvitae to the bottoms of feet morning and night.

By creating small, consistent habits, you can help your family stay well — naturally — all season long.
